Meow Wolf // Obsidiopolis

To celebrate the opening of artist Janell Langford’s new Obsidiopolis room at Meow Wolf, Refract was asked to create an augmented reality enabled magical church fan that would transport visitors to the Afrofuturist world of Obsidiopolis. Refract created an Instagram AR effect that when activated, opened a portal allowing you to see the larger than life character of Fantastrophe in outerspace, surrounded by pulsing stereos. The magic fans can be purchased from a machine in the Santa Fe exhibit, and are also enabled with NFC technology that can trigger special light and sound effects in the Obsidiopolis room at Meow Wolf.
